Robert Smith is the President and CEO of Nightlife Security Consultants, a national leader in training and consultation on venue safety practices. While with the San Diego Police Department, he responded to situations with venue security assaulting intoxicated patrons and realized specialized training was necessary. In 1998 he formed Nightlife Security Consultants and developed a curriculum based upon his officer training: Communication Skills, Understanding Body Language,De-escalation Techniques, Legal and Safe Use of Force, Alcohol Specific Liabilities and Powers to Arrest or Citizen’s Detention. He has since served as chairperson of California’s committee to develop the first state-mandated Proprietary Security Officers training. He has provided online and onsite training to 25,000 security staff from 1,500 venues and advised more than 100 cities and states on best practices on security standards. He is a frequent speaker at the Nightclub and Bar Show in Las Vegas and at RHI events.
